What is the Summer Solstice Swing Dance Festival?
It’s a full weekend of swing dancing highlighted by live music and summer-themed activities. During the day you can relax and explore Edmonton, followed by dancing the night away! This event is way for swing dancers from across North America and around the world to party together and enjoy amazing swing music and community.
When is Summer Solstice? Is it an annual event?
This even happens every year, timed with the calendar summer solstice. Therefore, the specific dates change every year depending on when solstice falls. It tends to be mid-June.
What does a day/night at Solstice look like?
During the day on Saturday and Sunday we offer guided activities so you can connect with dancers off the floor. The evenings are where the party kicks into high gear! We start at 8pm or so, and dance until 4 or 5am. Throughout the night you’ll enjoy live music plus a few summer-themed games and contests. Sunday typically has activities during the afternoon (in the past we’ve done Cabarets), followed by more dancing in the evening.
Will there be any dance classes at the event?
Nope, the event focuses on social dancing, enjoying great Alberta summer weather (hopefully), and hanging out!
