Our approach with the Summer Solstice Swing Dance Festival weekend was to hand pick exceptional jazz musicians who have years of experience playing 1930’s and 1940’s swing-era music. While not all musicians here are known in the Lindy Hop community, we can assure you that all of these guys are superb!
Brad Shigeta, Trombone (Edmonton)
Aurora Neeland, Vocals & Soprano Sax (New Orleans)
Ian Hutchison, Bass (Denver)
Al Muirhead, Trumpet (Calgary)
Jon McCaslin, Drums (Calgary)
Josh Roberts, Rhythm/Instrumental Guitar (Vancouver)
We are proud to feature local guest artists and bands of Edmonton too!
Ben Sures, Vocals & Guitar
Will Cramer, Guitar
Don Berner, Sax
Doug Berner, Trumpet
Audrey Ochoa, Trombone
Dean Pierno, Drums
Tom Van Seters, Piano
As with Summer Solstice Swing Dance Festival last year, the deejay line-up will be carefully crafted for a Lindyhopper’s Delight. Sugar Swing’s staff deejays will form a base for the event (Harrison Ayre, Tom Stefanyk, Kamyar Pooyeh, Birkley Wisniewski), and we will be adding a few guest deejays to the line-up too!
Standard event music will be music of, and inspired by, the 1930’s and 1940’s swing era dance music from Harlem, New York played for Lindyhoppers. A large majority of the music played will be that. Featured event music include the ever-popular bad swing music hour, the soul set, the blues set, and more! Folks, there are many hours of music and dancing to be had, so we’ll be keeping things interesting!
